Welcome to my site. My name is Russell Dunkin, and I am a Financial Advisor with an independent wealth management firm.
It seems like in every relationship I have, I’m the guy that people come to for help with anything related to technology. From setting up their PDA or iPhone, to configuring privacy settings on Facebook, to fixing their computer, I’m the guy.
In my career, I have a similar role in advising my clients how to take care of their total financial situation. I plan on bringing this (seemingly) random set of knowledge and help to this site.
But first, a little bit about me:
PROFESSIONAL:
I attended Capital University, in Columbus Ohio and graduated with a degree in Economics, with minors in Political Science and Finance. I have been in the financial planning and investment management business since 1998. I began my career as a broker, but transitioned to a fee only financial advisor four years ago. I work with individuals and their families on managing their total financial situation. On a general level, I advise clients on their future in retirement, funding their children’s or grandchildren’s education, devising strategies for managing estate taxes and transfer wealth to their children and grandchildren, as well as work with them on their investments.
PERSONAL:
When I’m not working, I am normally spending time with my wife Christy, and since the spring of 2008, our daughter Aubrey.
In my younger days, I raced road bicycles for Team Nail City Velo, and briefly for the GPOA team in Pittsburgh. I still ride, but just don’t have the time to commit to staying in “race shape”. I also enjoy golfing, and try to split time between both.
I’ve been a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Pittsburgh Penguins since I was a kid. My Dad would usually take me and my brother to a Pens game or two each season, and I’d usually find a way to at least one Steelers game as well. By college, I finally made the 4 hour trip to State College to see a few games in person. Although I don’t agree, I’ve been told I have an unhealthy obsession with all 3! In 2005 I had each of their logos painted on my rec room wall – who needs Fatheads when your friends with a graphic designer! In addition, I now have so many friends Sports Illustrated covers, Championship editions of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, and other assorted memorabilia, that I still haven’t figured out where to hang the new items from this years Super Bowl and Stanley Cup! Yeah, maybe I do have a slight problem…
Lastly, I’m obsessed with my (third) iPhone. While the greatest feature of the iPhone is that Apple provides ongoing software upgrades for free (so far), I have found a reason to buy the new handset three times now! I bought the original version after the price dropped, and then gave it to my wife when the 3G arrived. Strangely enough, the original phone died the week the 3GS came out, so off I went to Best Buy. My wife claims I have it surgically attached to my hand, and that’s only a minor exaggeration!
Thanks again for stopping by, and please subscribe to my posts. I’m looking forward to the conversation.
