My first Podcamp experience – #pcpgh4

by Russell Dunkin on October 10, 2009

Today I had my first Podcamp experience, and it was great!  In case you haven’t heard of it, Podcamp “a FREE community UnConference, run by and for people who create, enjoy, or are interested in learning more about social media.

I started using Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin about a year ago, and really can see the value in each of them.  When I heard of the Podcamp experience, I knew I needed to attend.  It didn’t hurt that my typical fall weekend plans of watching Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers can be overlooked thanks to PSU playing a D2 opponent, and the Steelers also playing the Detroit Lions (the NFL’s version of D2).  Of course, saying that on Saturday night can only lead to my epic jinxing of the Steelers, but we’ll hope not…

My biggest issue with the “un-conference” was choosing just 1 of the 5 hourly presentations.  I generally had at least 2, if not 3, session I wanted to attend.  Thanks to Vivo Live, not only are ALL of the daily presentations streamed live online for those who can’t attend, but will be issued as podcasts for viewing as late as this Monday.  That means I can extend Podcamp from Sunday on into next week!

In person, I chose to attend a WordPress Knowledge exchange hosted by John Carman and Mike Woycheck, a session on Selling social media to your boss by Cynthia Closkey, Blogging 201: Finding Fodder – So, you’ve started a blog. Now what?, by Michelle of BurghBaby.com, Writing for the Web, by Henry Bingman, and finally Shutting Down Your Blog: A Case Study of ‘The Burgh Blog’” with the blogger formerly known as PittGirl, Virginia Montanez, and her “butler,” Mike Woycheck.

I’m really looking forward to tomorrows sessions – like I said, I must be, I’m skipping a Steelers game!

Tune in tomorrow or Monday for more on Sunday’s sessions.

  • It sure was! Although, I suppose you can check back in 6 months to see for sure...

    Thanks again Michelle!
  • Thanks for sitting in on my session! I hope it was at least a little bit helpful.
