So today is the grand roll out from AT&T of MMS capability for the iPhone. A feature that has long been available to even the cheapest phones, is now going to be available on the iPhone. Unfortunately, I am wondering if this roll out is causing problems on AT&T’s voice network. Four iPhone users, including myself, have experienced problems today with being able to be heard by the people we are calling. I can’t find any information online about this, but I suspect the roll out has something to do with it.
In order to attempt a fix, I’m downloading an update to iTunes, which I suspect will then allow me to update the carrier settings on my phone. With all of the heat AT&T has received from frustrated iPhone customers over network coverage, this may put the final nail in the coffin. Many internet rumors suggest that the exclusive contract between AT&T and Apple may end in 2010. I suspect if they can’t roll out a feature available for years to most every other cell phone handset, it won’t bode well come contract negotiation time…
Update as of 1:23 pm
iTunes has been updated, and the new carrier settings synced to my phone. Voice problems still are widespread among my network at this point. But at least I can send pictures to my friends…
